Flushing Town Hall Hosts Cinco de Mayo Festival

(Flushing, Queens) – On May 3, 2014, Flushing Town Hall will host its Cinco de Mayo Festival.  This day of family fun includes a piñata making workshop at 12:30 PM; a Mexican music and dance workshop at 1:00 PM; and a performance by traditional folk music and dance group Mariachi Real de Mexico at 2:15 PM.


WHEN:     Saturday, May 3, 2014.  Family workshops start at 12:30 PM.  Performance by Mariachi Real de Mexico begins at 2:15 PM.


WHERE:  Flushing Town Hall – 137-35 Northern Boulevard Flushing, NY, 11354, a block and half east of Main Street.


COST:      $15/$12 Members/$12 Children/$10 Member Children

Master pinata maker Aurelia Fernandez will teach you how to make a simple pinata to keep or use.


Mexcian Music & Dance Workshop at 1 PM

Join New York’s premier ambassadors of Mariachi music for a workshop of traditional Mexican music and dance with Ramon Ponce, Jr. and Mariachi Real.


Mariachi Real de Mexico at 2:15 PM

Mariachi Real de Mexico, which celebrates this hundred year-old traditional folk music and dance, has played with Placido Domingo, Juanes, Train and even provided the music for Nickelodeon’s The Backyardigans.  The New York Times has called them “one of New York’s top groups.”

Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA) was founded in 1979 to be a revitalizing force for its community, and a creative catalyst for developing and promoting the arts throughout the Borough of Queens, the most culturally diverse county in the United States. FCCA restored, operates and programs historic Flushing Town Hall (circa 1862) as a multi arts center (on behalf of New York City, which owns the building) and provides services to artists, arts organizations and educational institutions, borough- wide.
